Driveway Tips

Erosion problems and how to prevent them in your driveway or road.

Many gravel driveways, if not maintained over the years can get in really bad shape with erosion problems. This is caused by both the traffic and water drainage problems.

One important thing to do is keep any debris off the driveway, like sticks, leaves and pine straw. This keeps your driveway wet and damp after rains and can cause pitting or ruts to develop. Depending on how many trees are near the driveway, this could happen more often and is something to keep an eye on. I always recommend blowing the driveway off every few weeks to keep it clear.

Drainage is another problem. Many times the ditches get full of leaves, debris and water gets routed back onto the driveway areas. This is another area to watch and keep clear. Also, the ditches sometimes just need a little touch up to keep the water flowing flowing good and out of the driveway, road areas.

As shown in some of the pictures, if left unchecked, the driveway, road areas can get really bad with ruts and may need more extensive work, like build up of the areas to get the proper drainage again.
